Cicadas began to warm up their evening symphony, preparing to bring life to an otherwise silent time. Of course it was a cacophony initially but gradually the music became sweeter and much more soothing. The sun itself was beginning to settle between distant mountains, distant lands. The red haze of the blazing star created a painting throughout Konohagakure making everyone appreciate it's beauty even in the smallest way.
Twing!
A mistake. That's not good enough, a rookie could swing a blade better than that!
A silver blur erupted from the abrupt stop, the blur jumping about with it's weilder movements. Her landings were rough and if just a tad more inprecise was had on her part would a tumble to the ground occur. Luckily, it didn't, her continous moving prevented gravity from having enough time to drag her down,
For a while, the only think that could be heard in the grassy area was the cicadas playing beautifully and swords cutting the air unrythemically. Yet then, it stopped. A bead of sweat rolled down from her temple to the top of the vertical, plotted logs. Short, shallow breathes took in the cool, September air the swords being slipped into to their holster for a temporary session of relaxation.
Jumping down from the tall pillars, the girl slumped down agaisnt the log and taking a short break from her training. Her eyes wandered over to the stone memorial that stood strong a few yards away.
Yakkai wondered what exactly it was. Well, she knew it was covered in names, but what for? Her short time in the village couldn't possibly explain all the details of the enormous city. So many odd customs Konoha seemed to have...

Hoshiko cocked his head back, still staring at the memorial of the village. The names on the memorial were encrypted with the uttermost care, or so it seemed. The way the sun crept down on the words created an emerald type glowing effect for the names encrypted on it. “There’s his name right there Ayano.” Hoshiko sighed, still not wanting to believe that his father’s name would be wrote on the memorial, day after day he would hope to visit the memorial to see a change, but no change was to come. Hoshiko knew this, but he just had a feeling that things would turn out differently one day. His fox companion, Ayano, simply lay it’s head on the grass of the area. It seemed to be in a saddened state every time Hoshiko found himself a little hurt to see his father’s name on the stone.
‘I guess this is how things were meant to turn out.’ The shinobi’s blue sheath fluttered as a small wind blew by. The Chuunin stood before the memorial himself looking towards the clouds in the sky. He could tell that nightfall was soon to come, but yet he didn’t feel the urge to leave the area. He could only wonder if his father would come back to the village unharmed, but this would only lead to daydreams, and daydreaming is only a waste of time for true shinobi. The boy’s face held a soft grin in place as he thought of his father actually coming back to the village. Hoshiko began to start and lose focus of everything around him, only thinking of past events that he and his father used to do.

That's strange: how come she didn't see that boy there before? Must've escapse her vision field.
Blinking, another bead of sweat was forced to travel down from her forehead and to her chin. Whiping the chin with her head, taking a deep breath wanting to slow her speeding heart Yakkai stared over to the idle boy for many minutes.
The cicadas hummed in the silence between the two. They were both the same age though she would likely find out later that he actually past the Chuunin Exams. Taking a step, not knowing why she would bother talking to the boy it was probably the curiosity of finding out what all those names meant on that stone.
Stopping, slipping her hands into her deep pockets ten yards away from Hoshiko.
"Hey," The slur of her words was obviously already, "what'ar ya' standin' there for?"

Hoshiko snapped out of his daydream, jumping at the sound of another voice. He trailed the voice back to its owner to find a girl, maybe about his age, standing not too far away from him. Hoshiko looked down to Ayano, his pet fox, to see it standing up in full alert. It also happened to hear the voice of the female not to far away from their current location. She looked to be a little shorter than Hoshiko himself, and from the way she spoke, she wasn’t from around here either. It’s been Hoshiko’s job to monitor his surroundings, and others that he met while out and about, just to remember his current location.
“Just observing the monumental stone here.” Hoshiko said bluntly, not leaking out too much information such as why he was looking at the stone in the first place. “Care to tell me why you’re out here?” Hoshiko asked, he tried not to sound rude, but just curious in a way. He’d never seen someone out in this area at such a time. He took another glance at the names on the stone, still it showed an emerald shimmer from the lighting of the sun.

Uncaring eyes sloshed a look over to the fox. A fox was the shape the demon took on that attacked Konohagakure. That's all she knew about the animals meaning, but she didn't quite know what the boy was doing with one. Yakkai watched it while Hoshiko spoke half expecting the little canine to bare it's little fangs.
Looking back up to the boy, wondering why he wouldn't just straight out tell her what he was doing there, Yakkai answered the question while pulling her sweat drenched hair behind her ears.
"Trainin'. What do those names on that rock mean, anywa'?" Her head turned to the side, questioning the boy who's mind seemed to be elsewhere. The aesthetics of the rock that Hoshiko saw, Yakkai couldn't see. It was the individuals outlooks that truely set them apat at that moment.

Ayano laid back down, either not caring about the girl, or just not in the mood to play around on this day. A silent wind seemed to blow as the Murakami's hair began to sway with the wind. He stood motionless for a moment, unable to exactly the gir'ls question in a good tone. He could only think of three letters to explain why these names were exactly on the stone.
"These are," Hoshiko paused for a second, looking for the right words. "very famous people of the Leaf Village." Hoshiko paused again, knowing that he didn't exactly answer the girl's question. "They were KIA". Hoshiko said the three words slowly, not caring to much on the girl's reaction, but of how his father's name was actually on the stone. He had to get his mind off the topic, he was tired of speaking of the memorial. It was mainly because his father's name was on the stone.
"How about I help you with youre training?" Hoshiko asked, it was a bit obvious that the boy was changing the subject. "I could, help you with a jutsu, or something else." The boy truely wasn't thinking about training, but if the girl agreed, he would have to help her out either way it went.

"These are, very famous people of the Leaf Village."
No, they just make carve random peoples name in stone for the hell of it. She would've said the sarcastic, rude words out loud if it weren't for that sullen look Hoshi had on his face. Actually, she was growing quite impatient with the boy's many pauses and was about to say something alongthe lines of 'Spit it out' or 'Just answer my question' until he spoke those three words that he brooded over for a time.
"They were KIA"
At this Yakkai gave a small gasp that was almost underneath her breath. Her quesion was answered, but her curiosity was perked even more so. How did each individual die? Who were they when they died? Yakkai enjoyed tales of ninja conquering over the enemy when she was young so it hit her hard a few years back when she learned of the death rate of the shinobi in Konohagakure. Knowing about this monument only was a harsh reminder of her, and many other genin's ultimate fate.
Before saying something that had popped into her mind about the subject at hand, Hoshiko spoke once again but this time in a normal tone.
"How about I help you with youre training?"
"Feh, no, I'm fine. Thanks though, kid-What's your name? You look familiar for some reason." Yakkai said this as she knelt down, picked up a long stalk of grass and began to gnaw on it with her back molars. She kept eye contact with Hoshi this entire time wanting to take a short break from her training but at the same time entertain herself with conversation.

Hoshiko let the words drift into his ears, hearing that the girl didn’t need any help with training. She continued that the Chuunin actually looked familiar, and she wanted a name from him. He watched as he knelt down as she spoke, picking up a blade of grass. Hoshiko simply smiled, he began to think about whether giving her his actual name, or some fake name that he’d think up. ‘I really don’t like to give out my information, but then again, what could she do with only a name.’
“Murakami Hoshiko.” Hoshiko answered the girl proudly. He took pride in his family’s name, so it would only be natural of him to put an emphasis on Murakami. He then looked towards his pet fox. “And this is Ayano.” The fox only looked towards Hoshiko before looking back towards the girl that stood not to far away from them.
“And your name is?” Hoshiko asked. He only looked for an answer from the girl, his mind now completely off of the monument. ‘I wonder if she remembers me from the Academy, or something along those lines.’ Hoshiko shook the thought from his mind as he stared into the eyes of the girl. He vision would not stray from the girl, trying to find the place in his brain the held the memory of the girl’s face. ‘Did I ever see her somewhere before? Maybe somewhere out in the village?’ Hoshiko only could think of the possibilities.

“Murakami Hoshiko.”
The lightbulb went off in her head and made her almost flinch when her mouth went agape "Ah, yeah, yeah, I know you. One of the teams from last year in the Chuunin exams. I seen ya' a few times during the first exam and at the gates of the secon' exam." Nodding, happy that she remembered him even if she knew that her memory was sharper than any blade Yakkai looked down at the fox.
With a little smirk the tall grass stalk that now sat inbetween two canids twitching, Yakkai looked over to the fox and then back to Hoshiko. This was a rather strange meeting, but it had been a time since she had company. Her personaility didn't allow for many friends like those giddy girls from the academy always seemed to have so Yakkai didn't exactly have a social life. Besides, training was more important than friendship.
"Yakkai Yuwaku at your service." Though this was usually said in a hyped up, high pitched tone by most people instead it was more a bland yeah-that's-my-name sort of thing. After a bit of silence between the two and the dynamics of the cicada song going up and down, she pulled out her blade once more beginning to formulate an idea of how both could train.
"Yo," Just for the hell of it she flipped a single kunai of her pocket and flicked it lightly in the boy's direction. "ya' wanna' spar or somethin'? I mean, der' ain't tellin' when either o' us will fight a get sparrin' partner and you look goo'." While speaking one of the blades from before was drawn making the gleam form the metal flicker arbitratily before settlng.

Hoshiko listened as the girl began to explain where she had seen him before. ‘The Chuunin Exams eh? If she was there that means she should be a Chuunin right about now, so she failed the Exams.’ Hoshiko thought a minute more as he thought if he’d ever seen the girl before. ‘Yea, as a matter of fact I did see her during the second part of the Exams. She was that one, what was her name again.’ Hoshiko raced through his memories, trying to get the girl’s name correct.
To no avail could he think of the name, but instead she told him. ‘Yakkai Yuwaku. Yea, that was her name!’ Hoshiko smiled as he closed his eyes. He repeated the name a few times more in his mind so he wouldn’t forget it again. ‘Yakkai Yuwaku.’ Hoshiko put the name to the side as he looked the girl in her face. He was certain now that he’d seen this girl before, and began to have a few flash backs.
Friends were an important thing to Hoshiko. He always found them helpful when he needed help. They were also people to talk to, and people to protect. The more friends Hoshiko had, the better off he thought he’d be. Of course, when he finally made it to the ANBU rank that he so desired he would have to be more secretive, but until then he could have as much fun with others as he wanted.
Hoshiko’s left eyebrow slightly rose as he watched the girl pull out her blade. He didn’t give the blade to much thought, but only paid much attention to the sky. He could see very few clouds in the sky, maybe two or three, but who’s counting? ‘I wonder how peaceful it would be just to float up there in the clouds.’ “Hmm…” The fox looked out towards Hoshiko, listening to the boy wonder, but said nothing and only laid back down.
Hoshiko’s thoughts were interrupted by the girl. He noticed the girl almost toss a shuriken in his direction. Hoshiko easily caught the blade by the back’s end, careful not to cut himself. He studied the kunai a bit, noting how it would benefit him while sparring. “A spar eh?” Hoshiko whispered to himself. “Sure, that’s no problem.” Hoshiko said back to the girl, as a matter of fact he wanted a chance to train a bit more. Hoshiko’s small fox began to rise as it noted Hoshiko fiddling with the kunai. “Not this one Ayano.” Hoshiko said, knowing the fox wanted to aid him in battle. “We’ll train together later.” Hoshiko smiled as his fox lay back down.

Ack, that cheap trick. Boys always used to catch various throwing weapons just to show off. The girls usually wooed over this and thought they were so strong and "awesome", but Yakkai knew that any shinobi could do something so mediocre. She held back a roll of the eyes at this.
A bone chilling wind swept past the both of them. Twilight had arrived and the soft blues of the sky began to show off those small dots of light. The stars were dull in comparison to the small bit of sun light that still clung to the side of the world, but soon their light would take over as would the Moon's light. That part of day was always the more peaceful.
Yakkai gave a challenging smirk to the ready and willing fox who's back hairs raised instantly at the mention of a spar. Rather amused by the little canine, she glimpsed at it a few times before glaring hard at Hoshiko. "Ah, goo', good!" Now, perhaps he was or wasn't expecting this from her but directing after speaking so cheerfully she revealed the other blade in a flash and struck at the mid-section of his body with a clean swipe of the swords. With great precision her foot jammed itself into the ground, pushing her forward into a spinning, protective circle that disallowed access to Yakkai because of the always moving swords.
Yet, this was only a defensive move, not offensive. She swept down, almost disappearing to the untrained eye before running low to the ground, way from Hoshiko the tips of the blades running close to the earth. Finally, she turned around huffing and puffing before shooting a smug smirk in the boy's direction.

Hoshiko smirked as the looked the girl in her eye. He could almost see the annoyed look the girl had just by reading her eyes. ‘Hm, that’s funny, when I used to do that all the girls used to be mystified over me catching the object.’ The Chuunin stood calm as a slight breeze blew past the area. Hoshiko could feel the cool air touch his gentle skin, giving it a soothing feeling. It Hoshiko relax a bit and actually enjoy the moment he was having with this girl. ‘I wonder If all breezes are meant to feel this way.’
Hoshiko only starred at the girl as she drew yet another blade and immediately took a swipe at Hoshiko. Since the Chuunin was half focused on the breeze, and half focused on the battle the blade actually pierced the boy’s skin, but that’s all it would do. He would quickly move back from the next attack, and kneel down trying not to injure himself in a mere sparring match.
He only looked down for a second at the injured part of his body to see a slight scratch. It wasn’t a lethal hit, and calling it fatal would be using a drastic word to describe the wound. He then looked up to see the girl to see a smirk appear on her face. Hoshiko himself grinned as he looked at the girl. It was time to have a little “fun” with this Yakkai. He wouldn’t try to overdue his fun this time though, as he knew it led to dire consequences.
“You want to try that again?” Hoshiko would ask. Little did this girl know, Hoshiko was judging a number of factors while looking her in the eyes. From her last attack he could tell she was pretty quick on her feet, and he could conclude that she also was a close range fighter since she used her swords to attack him thus far. Now if Hoshiko could find her fighting style, maybe take a few more petty shots to make her believe she was in control, and then he would have this sparring match set.
“Well, what are you waiting for?” Hoshiko now began to taunt the girl, urging her to come close for a physical attack again. His grin only grew wider and he took a fighting stance of his own. He made sure to be in a stance that would allow him to dodge the upcoming attack. “Or are you going to throw one of those useless shinobi weapons again?”

A predisposed expression of sly happiness crept slowly from one corner of her lip to the other. It was a pureposeful sign, one that fooled the opponent into thinking that she indeed believed that her confidence was going to soon get the best of her. Yakkai didn't seem smart, which was because it was partly true, but she had enough common sense to get a 'gut' feeling about what others intentions would be and enough experience to pick out some key body postures that spoke an unspoken word.
Now that was cold! Sweat from before hadn't dried off just yet and now the wind nipped at her, eating away to the bone. Try as she might she couldn't hold back a physical "shiver" that originated from her neck and ran along her spinal cord. That's fall for you, warm one minute and the next bitterly cold.
Blinking, grinting her teeth with a normally short tolerance running a tad thin, she did manage to hold on to a thread of that tolerance to last even just a while. "You talk a lo' for someone who just gat' cut by my sword." Yakkai played along in the boy's fun, both of them probably from a distance looking like tey were about to tear each others throat out. Just as well, the more serious they were about a playful fight the better they would do on the real battleground.
So, they were in a temporary stalemate, Yakkai not daring to make the next move but instead held the blades in a highly defensive position. "C'mon! Come at meh, sissa'! I bet'cha got no guts to even come at meh." The light taunting seemed to be passed back as forth just as easily as casual conversation. Odd, really seeing as both of them were ready to come out the victor no matter what.
"Show me wha' last year Chuunins were so special that could beat meh at them exams!"

‘Ah, avoiding my taunt eh? Smart girl, wonder why she didn’t make it to the Chuunin Rank? She certainly has the Taijutsu skills.’ The Chuunin smirked while he only eyed the girl, not thinking too hardily on his next move. ‘Well, I guess I can play a while longer, at least until she thinks she has control.’ Hoshiko grinned as he knelt down on a single knee.
He then exploded off with his speed, quickly making his way to the Genin that stood before him. He wouldn’t run the fastest he could, keeping in mind that he had a plan to stick to. When he did reach the Genin he would only aim a soft punch at the Genin’s right side of the face. The punch wouldn’t show his full strength; just enough to make the Genin think that he was actually a weakling.
After the punch he would quickly rush into a back flip that allow him to back away from the girl. He wouldn’t want to stay in close for long since the girl seemed to be a great close range fighter. He would surely have a tough time with Yakkai if that was his strategy.

She braced herself, stiffening up while continung to grind her teeth upon the soft end of the blade of grass. Eyes were hard, focused, clear watching Hoshiko's run as if it were in slow motion. The blades were spread out wide, but the tips slanted forward at her opponent while her stance in turn was wide. It was only when Hoshiko formed a fist that Yakkai knew what was likely to happen next because you didn't become this good at taijutsu just to be taken advantage of by a punch.
Did the fist meet her cheek? Yes, but she disappeared in a cloud of white before it could even bruise the muscle beneath the skin. Calculating all this as best she could with the math-inept mind of hers, Yakkai reappeared somewhere along the path that Hoshiko backflipped into but tripped over the boys shoe as soon as she hit the ground.
"Oof!!" Landing hard on her side, one blade escaped her hand, fumbling across the ground a bit before stopping. Still on the ground after half a minute, Yakkai finally sprung up to her feet shaking the dirt and grass out of her hair and face. Without a second mores notice she snatched the sword off the ground, reassuring her grip upon it once again.
Was she embarassed? Of course, probably by now Hoshiko had landed another attack on her and if it were a real battle she would've been dead from the clumsy move. Damn you, Yakkai! Shouting at herself, the frustration danced across her face while staring back at the boy. "Heh, well ain't that just beat it all?"
